Under the Spotlight with Ollie Samuel-Camps

Ollie joined Paul Basham Associates as a Graduate Transport Planner in July 2023 following his graduation from the University of Portsmouth with a BSc in Geography. He is looking forward to developing his career and has thoroughly enjoyed working with the team so far!

What does your job involve?

My role as a Graduate means that I get to be involved in numerous projects by assisting senior members of the team various reports such as Travel Plans, Transport Statements and Technical Notes as well as working with the team on Travel Plan Coordination.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

The thing I enjoy the most about my role is the wide variety of projects I get to work on and therefore, the number of different skillsets I get to use and develop. From reviewing a proposed layout for a small residential scheme in the countryside on AutoCAD to writing a Travel Plan for a Retirement Living development in the city... I get to experience almost everything Transport Planning has to offer!

What challenges you each day?

As a Graduate, every day is an opportunity to learn and with a wide variety of projects to work on comes a lot of learning! Different projects require different levels of technicality and solving the different problems and issues associated with projects can be extremely rewarding and beneficial.

What do you get up to in your free time?

As an avid follower of the New York Knicks I try to keep up with basketball as well as I can (despite the time difference). I’m also a big enjoyer of music and love listening to my favourite artists and discovering new ones as well as practicing on my guitar when I get the chance.
